Even MORE T shirt love!

I know I am pushing the limit here on my obsession and number of projects with recycled T’s but what can a girl do?! So as my dear college aged children were going through their closets and drawers, cleaning n organizing, I begged for their discarded T’s (“more, again”?! they asked).

As all you trendy ones know, the Maxi Dress was big this summer. When I was working on samples of Tshirt skirts for my summer sewing students, I thought about going the extra length to create a dress. Since I had several of my son’s Rider University T’s in the stash, I went for it!

The T’s were cut down to a 15″ square. I made 4 panels of serged, flatlocked T’s, one each for the front, back and each side. Next connected the sides of the panels, again with the flatlock…Ran two rows of machine gathers around the top of the T shirt skirt, drew in the gathers then attached a charcoal gray Old Navy tank top that I cut down a bit in length. Voila…just love to lounge in my Maxi!

Oh did I mention that those T’s also make adorable pillows?
I know….enough is enough!

More T shirt Love!

Finished my graduation gift, a t shirt quilt, made from daughter T’s stash of t’s worn on teams and at events from elementary through high school. Quilt n daughter are now off to college!

Here she is all wrapped up in recycled, t shirt love!

The quilt label is made from one of my hand dyed fabrics that I also stamped
before writing my sentiment…love my foot model (T), who is wearing blue nail polish, her college color!

Pin cushion flower Bangle Bracelets

Miss Millie, our feline extraordinaire, n I
recently completed a dozen giftees for friends attending the annual Summer 2012 ArtGirlz weekend retreat in Little Rhody. Now mind you, these friends are UBER talented in all media, so I needed something very unique to give as a little remembrance!
But I was so pleased with the way these bracelets came out!
I bought the cloth bangles from the clearance bin at Michael’s ( that super bargain alone gets me even more excited, I know that sounds pathetic but….!), wrapped em with torn, raw edge fabric strips tacked down by fabric glue. Made double sided fabric flowers, free motioned embroidered
’em and sandwiched a raw edged and beaded fabric rose in between.
Yes, used a hot glue gun to adhere the flower collage to the bangle.

So these clever sewist/artists friends can look hipster while stitching away!

Never Forget Bags

And so here’s another project I’ve been workin on since June: custom zippered makeup size bags as high school graduation gifts for my daughter and her friends!
Inspired by an adorable Amy Butler print with cutie elephant, I thought I’d sew up 18 bags as gifts! The theme was “Never Forget”, as the ol’ elephant never does! The bags are lined with a Kona Cotton in robins egg blue and bear custom embroidery “Never Forget
FLHS Class of 2012” done by amazing seamstress gal pal Kathy.

The last little finishing touch is the embellished zipper pulls: a variety of beads featuring lampwork elephant, glass peanuts and of course a pewter 2012 charm on a lobster claw clasp. Last is a little length of ribbon.
I just finished the last of these cuties,
It’s time to send em off with those college Frosh gals!
