Dress-ing for Summer

It’s been a while since my last post but
don’t think for a minute that these crafty hands have been idle!
In spring I enjoyed skirt-ing the issue, now I’m dress-ing for Summer.
Since it was daughter T’s graduation this year, both daughter n me needed new looks for the ceremony.
T’s dress was a nod to a retro look in both style, princess bodice with flared skirt, as well as chosen fabric (so on trend this spring/summer): embroidered cotton eyelet. All fabrics from Mood, NYC. It seems that it’s always a very hot n humid evening for our children’s high school outside graduations. T’s was no exception plus hot sun, so our dresses needed to be trim n cool! When our hunt for the perfect skinny belt turned unsuccessful the fashion savy grad opted for a cute turquoise grosgrain ribbon tied at the waist. Adorable!
My dress is based on Lisette for Simplicity#2059. Loved the idea of a chemise style for the sultry summer evening but found the pattern to be too loose, so I added two long body darts in the front and back. Perfect! The dress was still a pull on and oh so comfortable! Fabric was a very reasonable, bandana cotton print from Joann’s.

But there’s more!…Dress #3…
Before I even made my dress for the graduation, I did a little mock up, with the darts, in this yummy little cotton printed knit from Joann’s. Super cute, have worn it several times since!
