Spring in The City: Skirt #2

Well, Spring has sprung and what a great day and locale to premiere Skirt #2: NYC! I was overnighting in the City celebrating with my daughter her 18th along with my Mom. Our accommodations at The Affinia Shelbourne had a gorgeous balcony view of the East River to one side and The Empire State building to the other… a great place for a little photo shoot. Daughter T took terrific shots. This cute skirt has pockets sewn into the side panels….always love pockets!! Fabric is cotton floral print from Joann’s and I’m sporting my new Suprega sneakers-too comfortable for words! Oh a plug for “Godspell” the musical, absolutely incredible, brought us all to tears and to our feet cheering….go see it if you can!

Something old, Something new!

So my dear Plumed Serpent bridal seamstress gal pals have encouraged and inspired me to create this line of garters. My initial offering features these four lovelies made with fabrics, laces and embellishments that are both vintage and new. What great fun I had designing and sewing them! They range in width from 3″-4 1/2″… From sweet and petite to my nod to Gunne Sax (thanx Lissa for sharing many a hilarious walk down memory lane! And thanks Kathy for sharing from your very awesome collection of bits!). I am so excited to share these beauties with you, I will be setting up an etsy soon but in the meantime if you have the need for one….give me a shout and I’ll customize one to your liking!! Enjoy!!!!!

In like a Lion?!

So technically it’s still Winter, right?
Well I’m being proactive and have started sewing up some transitional samples for my students and me! Here’s a little pull-on cotton skirt (Simplicity 1970) pleated in front and back, separate elastic waistband with, wait for it, in seam pockets! This piece may be one of my “go to” pieces in the upcoming seasons. This little number was easy to make and can go from morning to evening, with flip flops to a little dress sandal. On Sunday when I wanted to photograph it we were scheduled for snow flurries thus the scarf (Pier 1!), down vest and Uggs! And, yes the wind was gusting ….ahhh yes, March is indeed comin’ in like a Lion!
